Heather Burdick

Kindergarten Teacher Assistant

Heather grew up in the mountains of WNC, born and raised in Hendersonville. Her love of education comes from a lifelong love of learning and helping others, along with her childhood love of reading, with many hours spent reading countless books. She is passionate about nature and the environment, and is excited to help nurture a love of nature and learning in the children she teaches. She also strives to be an advocate for mental health, and to foster a sense of belonging and individuality in all her students.

Before FernLeaf, Heather gained experience working in Early Childhood Education, working with toddlers and as a preschool teacher in a natural play based learning environment. As someone who gained a love of nature through early experiences during childhood such as camping and hiking with family, countless local river trips, and learning about local WNC nature and community through her own school experiences, she is very excited to be at FernLeaf, where she can share her passion for our local community and nature with her students.

When she isn’t at FernLeaf, Heather can usually be found spending time in nature, out in the woods on hikes, along the Blue Ridge Parkway, out swimming or paddleboarding, reading, thrift shopping, or spending time with close family and friends. She is also a mom to her son, Jensen, who shares many of these adventures with her and is also joining the FernLeaf community!
