FernLeaf does Chicago: Optional Travel Trip to Chicago! (Part 3)

Today we were all feeling very tired after a great night on Broadway.  We filled up on breakfast and then made our way to the Field Museum.  The museum was huge with miles of hallways and exhibits. Some exhibits were really interesting and some made us feel sad, the taxidermied animals could do this at the same time.  We saw different species of birds, cats, bears, pigs, wolves, otters just to name a few.  The Egyptian exhibit was fascinating.  We walked through the burial chambers of important ancient Egyptians and saw how bodies were prepared, laid to rest and all the items left with the person for the afterworld. We also saw lots of artifacts that included pottery, a boat and jewelry. Did you know Egyptian police used baboons instead of dogs? Other highlights include seeing dinosaur bones, totem poles and learning about the Pacific.

After the museum we left for lunch and walked to the bus stop.  The bus never came! There was no way we were going to miss the Museum of Ice Cream so we walked back into the city center, grabbed some fries and headed inside for all you can eat ice cream! We had to create ice cream names for ourselves. Holly turned into Alice Scooper! All the rooms were really bright pink and fun. We saw every flavor of jelly bean in the jelly bean room, ate hotdog ice cream, played mini golf and swam in the Sprinkle pool.  On the walls we saw pictures of other Sprinkle pools around the USA. It wasn’t all fun though when we learned that one ice cream topping from Alaska is made from animal fat and fish eggs mixed together! Gross!

Then it was time to head back to the hotel to get ready for dinner at the House of Blues. We walked down the Magnificent Mile in the drizzling rain which felt so refreshing.  Dinner was so tasty and live Blues music was being played as we all ate ribs, jambalaya, shrimp and grits, steaks, burgers, fish, mac n cheese, and pulled pork sandwiches. This was our last night in Chicago and we all LOVED it! We will be happy to see our families again tomorrow but will miss the great city of CHICAGO!!
