Wythe Newberry

Wythe's passion for education began at a young age when he had the opportunity to learn from some phenomenal educators who made a lasting impact on his life. Those experiences inspired him to become the kind of educator who helps students discover their own passions, strengths, and potential. His teaching journey began as a band director in the Tidewater area of Virginia, where he spent three years before moving to Charlotte, North Carolina. During his time in Charlotte, he taught a variety of music classes before transitioning into school administration, serving as both a dean of students and an assistant principal.

Originally from Roanoke, in the mountains of Virginia, he always dreamed of returning to the mountains. In the summer of 2021, he made the move to Western North Carolina, drawn by the beauty of the area and the opportunity to once again call the mountains home.

He is a proud graduate of Virginia Tech, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education (GOBBLE GOBBLE GOBBLE!). He later earned a Master of Arts in Music Education from Boston University and a Master of Arts in Executive Leadership in Education from Gardner-Webb University. His experiences as both a teacher and administrator have shaped his belief that education is about much more than academics. His goal as an educator is to help students work toward self-actualization while developing the curiosity, confidence, and skills needed to become lifelong learners.

When he is not at school, he enjoys cheering on his favorite sports teams—especially soccer and football—and following all Virginia Tech sports. He also loves cooking and baking, gardening, traveling, and reading. He considers himself a lifelong learner and is always looking for a new skill, hobby, or adventure to explore.

Being an educator continues to be one of the greatest privileges of his life. He is grateful for the educators who inspired him, the students who continue to teach him something new every day, and the opportunity to help young people discover who they are and who they can become.
