As part of FernLeaf's rich learning environment, we offer a variety of after-school activities and sports taught by the FernLeaf team or outside organizations with additional expertise. These offerings change throughout the year and may remain available after the initial enrollment period. The programs shown below are for our upcoming session.​​​

• Visit the Creek Campus river to safely and responsibly catch minnows and other aquatic creatures.
• Learn about the laws and ethics of collecting animals from the wild.
• Designed for students who love animals and want to get their hands wet!

• Explore a wide variety of artistic mediums, including painting and drawing, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture, and fiber arts.

• Encourage imagination, individuality, and self-expression.
• Build confidence while experimenting with new techniques.
• Discover and develop each student’s unique artistic style.

How Things Work Club

• Encourage curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving through STEM exploration.

Mindful Mess

Unplugged Board Game Club

• Relaxed, screen-free environment for tabletop gaming and socializing
• Play games from the club’s collection or bring favorites from home.
• Learn a new game each week with instructor guidance.

Bluegrass Guitar

Tuesdays

Grades: 6th - 12th

• Learn the fundamentals of playing bluegrass guitar.
• Practice common bluegrass chords, strumming patterns, and techniques for achieving the classic bluegrass sound.
• Learn through song studies and play bluegrass standards.
• Beginner friendly, but some basic guitar experience is recommended.
• Students should be comfortable playing basic open chords.
• Students are highly encouraged to bring their own acoustic guitar.
• Students who have never played guitar may find the pace challenging.

Bowling Club

• All you need is determination and an open mind.

HS Golf  Team

• All skill levels welcome! Whether you’re learning the game for the first time or looking to sharpen your skills, join us.
• Students will learn golf course etiquette, proper stance and grip, swing technique, and the fundamentals of the game.
• Most sessions will take place at Broadmoor Golf Links.
• Activities include the Toptracer driving range, an 18-hole putting green, and 9-hole rounds of golf.
• No golf clubs? No problem! Clubs are not required.

Winter Chess Club

• Chess club for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced players
• Learn how chess pieces move, beginner openings, new strategies and tactics, and advanced concepts such as en passant, the London System, and the Ruy Lopez.
• Practice and compete in timed chess matches.
• Participate in school chess tournaments.
• Tournament levels include beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
• Prizes and medals awarded to winners in each category
• Focus on building chess skills, strategy, and confidence.
