Megan Gallagher

Lower School Counselor

Megan grew up in the Chicago suburbs before she ventured to the northeast to finish high school and attend St. Lawrence University. There she found a great love for the outdoors while exploring the Adirondacks and spending a semester adventuring in New Zealand.

As her passion for the outdoors and working with kids grew, she was lucky enough to land a job spending summers in WNC and the Florida Keys leading high adventure trips at a camp for kids with ADHD and learning disabilities. Her favorite camp activities included llama trekking, backpacking, rafting, snorkeling, and yo-yo fishing! Seeing the growth campers made through trying new things, facing fears, and trusting the process blew Megan away. Connecting with kids in this capacity inspired her to figure out how to make the magic of working with kids a career. After moving to the Asheville area full time in 2011, Megan pursued a degree in school counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University and has enjoyed supporting students in becoming resilient, confident humans ever since.

Outside of school, she can be found playing in the garden or fly fishing with her partner, Chris, their wild toddler, Granger, and dog, Otter. She also enjoys rollerblading and coloring (bright, symmetrical patterns are her jam). Megan is excited to be a part of the FernLeaf community and is looking forward to supporting navigating challenges and sharing in successes!
