Katie Ayres

Kindergarten Teacher

Katie's passion for lower school teaching can be traced back to when she was in 3rd grade and her teacher gave her a teacher edition of their reading curriculum book. She went home and played school every day until she realized teaching was her calling. She grew up in both Virginia and North Carolina where she spent endless summers working as a camp counselor and eventually enrolled in the Teacher Cadet program during high school. During the program, she got to work as a mock student teacher with elementary students and improve teaching abilities.

Katie has traveled within and outside of the United States, being to 25 states and other countries like Aruba, Barbados, St. Kitts, Costa Rica and many more! Katie shares a love for culture. Those experiences prepared her to share her stories and love for culture with her students and colleagues at FernLeaf.

Katie is a 2020 graduate of the University of North Carolina Asheville, where she majored in Psychology with K-6 Teacher Licensure. Since graduation, Katie has taught 1st, 2nd and Kindergarten. She is excited to be back in kindergarten for another wonderful year at FernLeaf! When she is not busy with teaching, she can be found by any body of water, out shopping with friends, or at home relaxing with her partner Allie and their 2 pets, Sage and Olive.
