Evan Baptista

5th & 6th Grades Social Studies Teacher

Evan was born and raised in the captivating city of Boston, Massachusetts, a place steeped in rich American history and an unyielding spirit of progress. Growing up amidst the historical landmarks and stories of this remarkable state, he developed a profound love for history and a desire to share its significance with others. Evan's journey towards becoming an educator took shape as he found himself immersed in exceptional learning environments while working as a classroom aide. These experiences ignited a passion to pursue teaching. Recognizing the importance of a solid foundation, Evan embarked on a path of self-enrichment, delving into the realms of philosophy and history to deepen his knowledge. This quest eventually led to Southern New Hampshire University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in History. Fuelled by a relentless dedication to his calling, Evan then pursued a master's degree in education from Walden University, equipping himself with the pedagogical tools necessary to shape young minds. Evan's journey from Boston to academia has been driven by a fervent commitment to instill a love for learning and a profound understanding of history in the next generation.


Beyond his academic pursuits in philosophy, Evan has actively engaged with a diverse range of organizations, each representing different belief systems, including Buddhist, Christian, Baha'i, and Islam. This involvement has provided him with invaluable insights into various cultures and spiritual philosophies, fostering a deep respect for the multifaceted nature of human beliefs. Additionally, Evan's passion for the outdoors has taken him on journeys across the United States, as well as to captivating destinations like Costa Rica and the Cape Verde Islands off the west coast of Africa. The allure of nature's beauty and the thrill of exploration brought him to these diverse locales, enriching his understanding of the world and broadening his perspective on life's myriad experiences. These encounters, whether within different belief communities or amidst the wonders of the natural world, have contributed profoundly to his growth and development as an individual with a rich tapestry of experiences.


Currently, Evan, his wife and two children, have made our home in the picturesque landscapes of western North Carolina, a region that resonates deeply with our shared passion for hiking and our profound love for nature's beauty. Embracing the serenity and outdoor opportunities that this area offers, Evan and his family have found a true sense of belonging. His commitment to this region is unwavering, as they envision a future intertwined with its breathtaking vistas and serene trails. As a testament to his dedication, one of his children is enrolled as a FernLeaf student, a choice that reflects shared values and desire to provide them with an education that fosters a connection to the environment and a strong foundation in learning. Through our treks in these lush surroundings and the academic journey of his child, Evan continues to forge a harmonious life that thrives on the synergy between love for the great outdoors and devotion to nurturing young minds.
