Lyn Messinger

1st Grade Teacher

Living and working in cities across the globe—from Paris and Milan to Tokyo and Singapore—has given Lyn a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and educational approaches. With a background in the arts and education (BFA and MSEd), she's taught in international schools and collaborated with creative communities, including her time working with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and the National Dance Institute in New York City.

Lyn has spent the majority of her teaching career at International Baccalaureate schools in Singapore and Tokyo, where she embraced the IB’s global mindset and inquiry-based approach. During that time, she developed sustainability-focused learning programs in Singapore, inspired by her work with the Green School in Bali. Most recently, I taught at Honolulu Waldorf School, continuing her exploration of nature-based, child-centered education.

Now that Lyn and her family has relocated to Asheville, she is excited to bring her experience and energy to FernLeaf. Lyn's husband, Andrew, works in Singapore, and her family remains shaped by a global perspective. As a mother of three—ages 14, 17, and 18—she looks forward to partnering with families and creating an engaging, connected classroom experience for every student. Outside of school, she loves to cook and spend time outdoors, whether hiking local trails or simply enjoying nature with her family.
