Emry Trantham

Emry Trantham was born and raised in Western North Carolina, growing up primarily in the Mills River area. Her upbringing among the mountains and forests of WNC shaped her lifelong love of storytelling, folk culture, and the natural world.

Emry has spent most of her life working with children in some capacity. Teaching is something she has always enjoyed, so it was an easy choice to combine that passion with her lifelong love of reading and writing by studying English Education. She attended Western Carolina University as a Teaching Fellow and graduated with honors.

Her first teaching position was in the Developmental Studies department at A-B Tech. From there, she took on various freelance writing projects and established a successful family and wedding photography business. She returned to the classroom in 2017 at West Henderson High School, where she taught for six years before switching gears to pursue real estate. This is her first year teaching at FernLeaf, and she is beyond grateful to be back in the classroom.

Outside of school, Emry is a poet, photographer, reader, mountain biker, horseback rider, hiker, and more. She is a voracious reader with a particular love for Appalachian and Southern literature, and she carries a lifelong curiosity about the natural world, from native plants to local wildlife.

Above all, Emry is a devoted mother to her three daughters, and she is thrilled to bring that same sense of care, patience, and rootedness to her students at FernLeaf.
