As part of FernLeaf's rich learning environment we offer a variety of after school activities and sports taught by the FernLeaf team or outside organizations with additional expertise. These offerings change throughout the year and may be available after the initial enrollment period by communication with the instructor. The programs showing below are for our most recent session.
Lower school is our elementary students in grades K-4th and upper school comprises 5th grades through high school. Click the links below to see the offerings for those specific grade levels.

• Learn about the French Broad River, which begins in Pisgah National Forest and flows 218 miles through North Carolina and Tennessee before joining the Tennessee River.
• Discover a variety of recreational opportunities, including:
Paddle camping
Whitewater boating
Fishing for species ranging from native brook trout to sturgeon
• Build the skills and confidence to continue exploring the river independently.
• Begin with a canoe skills and safety session at Lake Julian.
• Explore a different section of the French Broad River or one of its tributaries during each subsequent session.
• Trip locations will be selected based on the skill level and experience of the group.
• Gain hands-on experience while learning about one of the region's most valuable natural resources.
