Lisa Ivey
Exceptional Children Teacher
Lisa’s love for children began at an early age when she became an aunt to 13 amazing nieces
and nephews. Lisa spent her free time babysitting and enjoying children growing up in Fairmont
NC. Lisa attended Meredith College in Raleigh to grow her knowledge of children earning a
degree in child development as well as a K-4 teaching certificate. She went on to earn her
master’s degree in special education adding teaching licenses to teach many areas of special
education.
Lisa has been an educator for 35 years. Lisa taught self-contained exceptional children’s
classes in elementary and middle school for 4 years. Then she co-taught through the inclusion
model for 25 years at the middle school and high school level. Before retiring Lisa spent 2
years as the high school Exceptional Children’s Coordinator. She has loved every minute of
building relationships with students as well as staff. She was awarded the “Leading with the
Heart Award” twice during her career with Johnston County schools. After retiring from public
school Lisa has continued her love for children and education. For 2 years she worked for
Campbell University as a student teacher supervisor. She lives at Topsail Island where she is
thrilled to tutor so many amazing students.
In her free time Lisa enjoys walking, traveling, meeting new people, reading and spending time
with her precious family.
