Emily Moreno

Emily grew up on a small llama farm and went to undergraduate school in Ohio. After graduation she moved to North Carolina and started her teaching career in Harnett County. While teaching Emily received her Masters of Arts in teaching in Biological Science from Project Dragonfly and Miami University. During her studies, she explored inquiry, community based conservation, environmental stewardship, and more. While studying she was able to travel to global hot spots such as Baja to swim with whale sharks, Thailand to learn about Buddhism and conservation, and Belize where she focused on how communities support the environment around them. Emily’s time in the program fueled her love for travel and learning.

She continued her passion of travel, education, and environmental stewardship through visiting schools around the world. While on a climbing trip to Tanzania, Emily visited and brought supplies to a local Massi school. In Ecuador, while traveling with the NC Museum of Natural Science Educators of Excellence program, she was partnered with a local village and school to bring lessons and supplies for the teachers there. Finally, Emily got to work with a group of kids in the Amazon and help distribute native trees to replant in their villages.

Nature and the environment are in all aspects of her life. She recently traveled again with the Educators of Excellence program in the Blue Ridge Mountains to learn more about our wonderful biodiversity surrounding our home. Emily, her husband, Cruz, and kiddo Emilio love to spend time in nature. They frequently take camping trips, love to spend time on the water kayaking or stand up paddle boarding, and hiking with their many dogs.
