Katie Porter
5th & 6th Grade Social Studies Teacher
Katie's passion for teaching can be traced back to a desire to help others from a young age and her imaginative and creative mind that enjoyed incorporating all things nature into what she was learning. She grew up in Buffalo, NY where she was immersed in a new sport or hobby regularly and found adventure wherever she went.
After graduating she decided to move to the mountains of North Carolina to pursue her passion in teaching and love for the outdoors. She had amazing opportunities teaching special education in K-6, working alongside other educators to foster inclusive and engaging learning environments. She also taught in 1st and 2nd grade classrooms and was a proud soccer coach for middle school. These experiences showed her the importance of individuality and relating learning to real life experiences and led her to new adventures teaching 5th and 6th grade.
Katie is a graduate of The College at Brockport, SUNY, where she majored in Childhood Inclusive Education. When she is not busy with teaching she can be found doing all things outdoors; hiking, paddling, camping, or reading a good book in her hammock. She loves to adventure in the mountains with her partner and 2 fur babies whilst finding delicious food around Asheville.
