Cathy Gilkeson
K-4th Grades Exceptional Children Teacher
Cathy knew she had chosen the right career during her first year teaching in a private
hospital setting. She is passionate about making sure every child leaves elementary
school with the foundational reading and math skills which will set them up to be
successful lifelong learners. She is so excited to become a part of the amazing Fernleaf
team!
Cathy moved to Asheville as a child and considers these beautiful mountains home.
She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from UNC-A, her master’s degree in
education from Western Carolina University, and is a national board certified teacher.
When she is not busy with teaching, Cathy is busy traveling to visit family (Kentucky,
Louisiana, and Wisconsin) and dreaming of new places to travel.
In the last year, she has traveled all over Scotland, spent a few days in Iceland, and visited the states of
Hawaii, California, and Nevada. Her next adventure is taking her to Spain with her
husband and adult children! When not traveling elsewhere, Cathy and her husband love
to hike and are particularly fond of the mountains to sea trail.
