Alexis Hinchliffe

5th & 6th Grade English Language Arts Teacher

Alexis’ passion for teaching literacy can be traced back to her constant love of service, reading, and learning people’s stories. She grew up in the piedmont of North Carolina and fell in love with the mountains through her time at Appalachian State University. While in college, she majored in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Language Arts and Social Studies.

Throughout her life, Alexis has enjoyed organizing service projects which spread awareness about the needs of our world and open others’ eyes to the importance of all voices in our society. She has done this through partnerships with Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, local churches, and many other organizations. While in college, Alexis was a fellow with the Scholars with Diverse Abilities program where she helped students with diverse needs navigate and find success in their college experiences. These experiences prepared her to lead her students in service learning. This past year, she led her homecrew in hosting a food drive at FernLeaf which provided over 1,400 meals to the western North Carolina community.

When Alexis is not busy with teaching, she can be found disc golfing, hiking, bouldering, playing music, or reading a good book.
